IERAL and what we do… Iowa has been hit hard by MOTHER NATURE during these past few weeks. We’ve had horrible tornados and now the Floods of 2008. IERAL THANKS EVERYONE who contacted us over the past week asking about how we are doing. Our foster care sites in eastern Iowa are drying out slowly. Hay is VERY hard to find and farmers are not able to get into their fields (what’s left of them). PETFINDER.COM came to our rescue early this week and asked for us to submit a grant to help offset our current costs and conditions.  IERAL received several calls from eastern Iowa law enforcement in regards to equines being stranded or standing in 4+ foot of water and not sure what to do. Thank goodness for  those people who took it upon themselves to canoe over to feed stranded horses, others took food to the 15 horses in the flooded barn, where the woman would NOT remove her horses from their stalls.   Our most recent call was this Wednesday stating that law enforcement had removed a mare and foal from flood waters. Mare was swimming frantically and foal was on dry land. Then the next day we found out that the foal was BORN that day and the officer walked through water to carry the foal to a boat, while the mare swam with them to get to safe ground.  NOW, that is one great story for the rescue books! If any of you have any contacts in Iowa who can donate or purchase hay please send them our way. IERAL realizes that adoptions will probably go down while our economy is at a bust, so anything you can do to help WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!!!                           Thanks in Advance

DUMPING OF UNWANTED HORSES

IERAL was contacted in May about yet another horse Dumped on a highway. Local law enforcement did not know what to do with him. They asked if IERAL would come and get him? Well, I wish it could be that easy. Money doesn’t grow on trees, nor did they want to pay to help this injured horse or transport him.  We arepreparing for his arrival soon! Flood waters and damaged roads have stopped us from getting him sooner. Bless the wildlife rehab person who took this poor boy in when NO ONE ELSE WOULD. IERAL will pay for all vet, rehab, and look for a forever home for him!

Meet "Colton"...
Here is a 7 year old "Gai Parada"bred Arabian.

We've also learned, that Colton has "moon blindness" and needs a VERY special person to adopt him. We are starting to fund raise for Colton to possibly get some sight back in one or booth of his eyes. ISU Large Animal Clinic charges $3200 per eye. Please help us help Colton regain some sight this summer!!

Here are two of our newest members of IERAL. They were "water rescued" and then law enforcement called IERAL to help!
